If you’re shopping for your own health insurance, here’s each step of the application process.
When shopping for health coverage, it’s important to know the health insurance application process and what to anticipate.
While these steps can vary by state, product and time of year that you’re shopping; these four steps will help you know what to expect and when.
Here are the four steps in the health insurance application process:
Step 1: Shop and Estimate
Shop our leading selection of health plans. Estimate your subsidy eligibility and how much you might save on cost.
Step 2: Apply and Enroll
Apply for coverage for you and your family. Review your results and enrollment details.
Step 3: Make your First Payment
Once your application for health coverage has been submitted, you’ll need to make your first payment before your coverage can begin.
If your insurance company is not set up to take online payments, eHealth will email you the information you need to make your first payment.
We recommend you wait 3 to 4 days after submitting your application before contacting your insurer to set up your payment plan.
Step 4: Cards and Coverage
You will receive your insurance cards and a welcome package in the mail along with a copy of your insurance policy after you’ve been approved.
*Be aware that the date you asked for your health coverage to begin will be honored, in most instances, even if your application is still being processed.
